Welcome to Weston Locher's Musings on Minutiae where the author offers up hilarious observations and insights on topics of great importance such as
- His childhood memories - "Our family was nearly torn apart on several occasions by arguments started when the refrigerator door was open for what my father deemed as `too long.'"
- Living in an urban apartment complex - "...if I become an admitted pet owner, then I have to pay not only a several hundred dollar deposit to the apartment complex, but I'm pretty sure that they also reserve the right to harvest some of my bodily organs..."
- Life with frenetic felines - "They scamper in front of my legs, causing me to fall and face plant into whatever furniture is closest. They especially like to play this game when I'm carrying piping hot coffee."
- Working in the corporate world - "The first way not to shake hands is executed by receiving someone's hand in yours and proceeding to squeeze it tightly, hurting the other party as if they were responsible for a past death in your family, or your adoption as a child."

This book was absolutely hilarious! I had a blast reading the essays and anecdotes that are Weston Locher's life. Most of the stories, I related to, things that happen in his life, happen in many others loves as well. He has a great way of blending wit and sarcasm, and he is even a little cynical. I had a few favorite stories, I would recommend that whomever is reading this book definitely read the story about the water gun fights, that reminded me of my water gun fighting days taking on my parents, hoping to blast them to oblivion. I really loved the stories about his cats, because I also had a few cats when I was younger and he definitely captures their whole outlook on life and living with humans. The pains that it brings them. Haha! Anyway, I would just like to point out that everyone should read this book, because no matter what, at some point, you will agree with Mr. Locher and his adventures will spark your memories from your childhood and your life as an adult.Product details

What can I say.......... but I loved it! I was bothering my family with "read this part" or "listen to this one"! Lots of real Laugh Out Loud moments too.
Short little musings about all sorts of different things. Like unusual things that happened while growing up (we all can relate to those) being out on your own, having CATS! we all have been there too! Enjoyed them all, my favorites, really liked the dentist one, angry feline and loved grandmas comment! So many funny things I can't write them all down and make this a short review. Loved reading about his family.
For a debut book I was really impressed and look forward to read more from Weston Locher in the future!
Weston Locher has written a wonderful side-splitting little book,"Musings on Minutiae". He has dredged up anecdotes from his family life as a young child and decided to share them with us.
If you`re down in the dumps and you need a good laugh, and you can spare an hour or two, then go out and buy Weston`s book. It`s obvious that he loves his family very much. I think perhaps he gets his sense of humor from his dad.
I`ll share just one short incident During a family gathering, perhaps Weston wants to be the center of attention, so he decides to stuff the family cat in a large box just to see what happens. It seems the cat was smarter than Weston. The cat waits in the box, not making a sound. When Weston becomes impatient, he decides to tip the box up and just peek inside. BAM !, the cat flies out and decides to attach his claws to Weston`s lower lip. Now, that`s funny!
All of Weston`s little stories are like that; short, sweet and to the point hilarious. This is Weston Locher`s first book and I guarantee you, it won`t be his last. It was so great I read it in one sitting. Then I gave it to my daughter, she said she laughed so hard she got a headache!
I must be honest, reading this book on Notepad was not the easiest so I may be too stringent on this review. I think I had better read Weston Locher's next book in an actual book. The first letter of all the words were cut off for all of the sentences and there were lots of numbers thrown about. If I read this book in regular book form, I may have given it five stars.
Aside from that, I did chuckle out loud several times when reading it and there were several times that what he wrote brought back childhood memories. I am a tranplanted Hoosier and he is a tranplanted Buckeye so I that his comments on the frigid weather in winter and very hot muggy summers were true. That is also the reason that I now live in Texas.
I enjoyed his exaggerations like this one "Eventually I was making coffee so thick that it had to be chewed." I especially enjoyed his discussion of his collections. I still have my rock and fossil collection collected mostly from the front and back yard of my childhood home. And the part about his pencil collection and his parents who missed the point and proudly presented him with a large set of identical yellow pencils. How about a mood pencil? pencils from the different countries instead. This rang through to me too, because my father often missed the point of my collections too.
Also like the discussion of different kinds of handshakes. Always hated the "dead fish" handshake but it never occurred to me to write about it.
So, I think one of Mr. Locher's talents is seeing the humor in things that people notice and ponder but never take it to the next level.
Looking forward to his next book.
I really enjoyed reading this book! It was perfect for someone who doesn't always have a lot of time to sit down and read for hours. The stories were short and hilarious. I found myself laughing out loud several times when the stories hit close to home. I look forward to more books by Weston!
This is a really fun book of little essays about life in small town rural America, and then in the big city. They are delightful and funny, with a dry wit and interesting sense of humor. It is a good book for picking up when you just have a few minutes to read, and to brighten your day. I recommend it.
This is a great collection of very funny stuff. The author pulls you right in to each memory, each observation, as he looks back, looks forward and looks around at the stuff we all do - and the stuff we all have done TO us. You'll never forget the hilarious story "Mayonnaise," guaranteed. Guaranteed. Looking forward to more from this guy!
I found this book to be very easy reading - short chapters, and a quirky brand of humor. However, unlike other reviewers, I did not find it to be laugh-out-loud funny. It was a good bedtime book, since each chapter stood on its own, and was only a couple pages long. A quick grin and chuckle before turning out the light would sum it up perfectly. Would recommend for someone looking for light, inoffensive, humor, but not for those who want to be kept laughing right out loud.
